About Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy is one of the leading diffusers of stress and anxiety as well as a non-medicinal reliever of pain and depression. However, the benefits of massage therapy go well beyond relaxation.

Soothe, rejuvenate, and relieve stress of everyday life while facilitating healing and recovery for your body with Massage. Franciscan Health Fitness Health Centers locations offer a variety of massages to suit your muscular needs and your time constraints.

With the increase of Work from Home positions, more of us are experiencing longer bouts of being sedentary and are feeling the effects in many ways including postural imbalances, back pain, and low blood flow. Short duration massages, 10-30 minutes, can help with reducing the stress, anxiety, muscle soreness and tension, and even migraines that are results of prolonged sitting.  Short duration massages offer the additional benefit of convenience. These massages can easily fit into a lunch break and are completed fully clothed.

Those looking for relief with Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, frozen shoulder, headaches, Parkinson’s Disease, Piriformis Syndrome, stress relief, sprains, strains, TMJ, tendinitis, or whiplash would benefit from a longer duration massage.

In Chesterton, 30 Minute Sedentary Support Massages are available for scheduling in the Massage Suite.  Some of our options include Relaxation Massage based around long flowing strokes to help you relax, Deep Tissue Massage for those who are in pain or stress, Hot Stone Massage for those looking to enhance the relaxation process, Pre/Postnatal Massage to help new mothers handle the physical demands necessary. Massage options are offered in single sessions or packages ranging from 30 to 90 minutes. For more information, call 219-983-9832.

Highlights

  • Swedish Massage

    Swedish Massage

Therapists use a combination of five basic strokes, all flowing toward the heart, to manipulate the body’s soft tissues. The benefits of a Swedish massage may include general relaxation, increased flexibility, relief from muscular tension, decreased muscular discomfort, and improved circulation.

  • Deep Tissue Massage

    Deep Tissue Massage

This type of massage incorporates greater pressure to reach deeper muscular layers. Deep-tissue massage concentrates on areas of tension and alleviates pain. This is beneficial for those who have been involved in heavy physical activity and may be recommended by a physician.

  • Sports Massage

    Sports Massage

Sports Massage combines traditional massage with a variety of compressions, and stretches focusing on muscle systems relevant to a particular sport.

    AVAILABLE AT: Chicago Heights

  • Hot Stone Massage

    Hot Stone Massage

Depending on your individual needs, hot stone therapy can unlock tension deep within the muscles, relieve stress or help you achieve total relaxation.

    AVAILABLE AT: Chicago Heights

  • Ear Candling

    Ear Candling

This centuries-old practice is used to relieve pressure, wax build-up and inner-ear blockage. The treatment involves soothing facial massage, followed by placing a slow-burning cylinder gently into your ear. The cylinder is then lit at the opposite end to create a vacuum. You experience no discomfort whatsoever as the vacuum helps to soothe and relax your ear.

    AVAILABLE AT: Chicago Heights

  • Pre/Post Natal Massage

    Pre/Post Natal Massage

This therapy encompasses massage work done during pregnancy and postpartum. Many of the techniques are similar to what you experience during a regular therapeutic massage session, but they are tailored to the needs of the mother and her current phase of pregnancy. The mother will be positioned to help relieve pressure on the back, pelvis, hips, and abdomen. The goal of perinatal massage is also very similar to that of a regular massage session: loosen the strain on muscles and joints, promote relaxation, decrease stress hormones, and increase blood and lymphatic circulation. Perinatal massage can also help facilitate a more naturally progressive, relaxed, and at times, faster labor.
A release from a Medical Professional is required for Pre and Post Natal Massages

    AVAILABLE AT: Chesterton

  • Sedentary Support

    Sedentary Support

With the client fully clothed, this Swedish style massage is for individuals that have a sedentary lifestyle or a sedentary job. Benefits include increased energy, flexibility, and range of motion. Cream or oil would only be used on exposed skin such as the hands and feet.
