Is there anything more refreshing than the smell and taste of a freshly squeezed lemon? Used for everything from cooking to cleaning, lemons can also be used to give drinks more flavor. Take lemon water for example. Just take a fresh lemon and squeeze some into your glass of water - with much more flavor than plain water and various health benefits besides! How much you want to add is entirely up to you.
Boosts Immunity & Digestive System
Drinking lemon water in the morning is one of the best ways to revitalize and hydrate your body. But did you know that it can also enhance your immunity? Lemons are rich in Vitamin C, a natural antioxidant that improves the immune system and there are loads of this vitamin in lemon water. Lemon water can also help keep your digestive system to work well overall. Lemon water has been shown to help stimulate the production of bile. This is a substance that helps the digestive system to break down various substances such as lipids. This helps us to break down our food and get the nutrition we need from it. It helps to make sure we have the energy we need, building blocks for growth and maintenance and makes sure we have what we need to fight off diseases. Some people drink lemon water as a daily morning laxative to help prevent constipation. Drinking warm or hot lemon water when you wake up may help get your digestive system moving.
Balances pH & Boosts Metabolism
Some sources say that lemon water has an alkalizing effect, meaning that it can neutralize stomach acid, which may reduce acid reflux. Lemon juice is acidic, with a pH of 3, while water has a pH of around 7, which is neutral. This means it is neither acidic nor alkaline. Increasing the metabolism is one way to lose weight because it will cause an increase in the rate at which you burn energy. Lemon water can help you with this and it is recommended to people who have weight loss goals.
Increase Hydration
It can be difficult sometimes to keep hydrated, particularly on a hot sunny day. We can also find it difficult to rehydrate in the mornings, after all, it is usually around 8 hours since we last had a drink. Even water cannot do the trick sometimes, leaving us feeling as though our thirst is not quite quenched. Lemon juice, however, is full of electrolytes and potassium, both of which can help to rehydrate your body. This can help to make you feel refreshed quicker. It can also help to freshen up your mouth. Water is one of the healthiest drinks we could have. It isn’t the most interesting drink due to it having little to no taste. This means that people are often likely to opt for more interesting refreshments instead such as something high in sugar content and other ingredients that are not good for our health. Adding some fresh lemon to a glass of water can help make your drink somewhat more appealing. This is a good way for people trying to lose weight or watch their sugar consumption to enjoy a tasty drink while cutting down on their calorie intake.
If you don't usually have lemons at home or this sounds like too much trouble for each morning, buy three pounds of lemons and juice them all at once. Freeze the fresh juice in ice cube trays and when frozen, pop the cubes into a ziplock bag and store in the freezer. Drop a frozen lemon cube into your water each morning and enjoy!
